Crochet Moonchild Summer Wrap

Crochet Summer Wrap: A New Layer for the Moonchild Collection

A lightweight crochet wrap for seaside promenades, summer evenings and wherever warm days turn into cool nights.

The simple, delicate, lace, crochet summer wrap is a soft and practical addition to the rest of the Moonchild collection. Halter-top, stained-glass bag, lacy skirt, summer hat, and a chic bracelet create a perfect beach and leisure assembly. Read about it and get the pattern below!

From Crochet Bolero to the Long Summer Wrap

One of the things I enjoy most about designing crochet garments is discovering how one idea can grow into several different pieces. I rarely think of my patterns as standalone projects. Instead, they often become starting points for new designs, gradually evolving into coordinated garments that share the same style while serving different purposes. The Moonchild Summer Wrap is a perfect example. Inspired by the Moonchild Bolero, it keeps the same airy mesh stitch while introducing a longer silhouette and a few thoughtful changes that give it a character of its own.

Familiar Stitches, A Fresh Look

The wrap is based on the same open mesh stitch pattern as the bolero, but with several thoughtful changes that give it its own personality.

Instead of the horizontal rows of treble crochet between the shoulders and the bust, the mesh pattern flows uninterrupted from top to bottom. Only a single row of treble crochet stitches along the shoulders separates the front and back panels, creating a clean structural line.

The same decorative row of treble crochet stitches finishes the lower edge, where long fringe adds movement and a relaxed, bohemian feel. Unlike the bolero, I decided to leave out the picot edging to create a cleaner, more flowing silhouette that complements the longer shape of the wrap.

Simple Construction, Comfortable Fit

One of the biggest differences is the construction. The wrap is crocheted with thinner yarn and worked wider than the original bolero. That extra width naturally forms short sleeves, making the garment surprisingly simple to assemble—even for confident beginners.

To give the wrap a little more shape, I added a double-stranded crocheted drawstring below the bust. It’s simply a crocheted chain threaded through the mesh, finished with wooden beads and handmade tassels at both ends. The drawstring can be tightened for a more fitted silhouette or left loose for an effortless, flowing look.

More Than a Crochet Summer Wrap

To me, handmade garments are never just about stitches and rows. They become part of the moments we remember—a peaceful afternoon with a favourite book, a cup of tea, the gentle movement of warm summer air. This Crochet Summer Wrap was designed with those moments in mind, bringing together comfort, elegance and effortless style.

Summer isn’t measured only by the places we visit, but by the moments we take time to enjoy.

Styling the Crochet Summer Wrap is So Much Fun

One of my favorite things about this wrap is how easily you can change its look. Leave the drawstring loose and wear it open for a relaxed, effortless feel. Tighten it just a little to gently shape the waist while keeping the front partly open. Or pull it in a bit more to create a completely different silhouette with the wrap softly closed.

Its versatility makes it easy to style for many summer occasions. Wear it over a tank top and shorts for an easy everyday outfit, or throw it over your swimsuit as a lightweight beach cover-up. If you choose to crochet it in white, beige or pale pink, it would look especially beautiful by the sea. And for cooler summer evenings, simply layer it over a sleeveless dress for a look that’s both romantic and effortlessly elegant.

So, whether you’re strolling along a seaside promenade, enjoying a summer evening on the terrace, or simply adding a light layer to your everyday outfit, the Moonchild Summer Wrap is designed to move with you.

Part of the Moonchild Collection

Although this wrap now has its own dedicated pattern, it shares the same signature stitch and airy texture as the Moonchild Bolero. It was inspired by the same idea of lightweight, versatile crochet that can be worn in different ways throughout the summer.

Written specifically for the wrap, this pattern includes all the instructions you need to create the longer silhouette from start to finish, making it suitable for crocheters who want to make the wrap directly without adapting another design.

One Collection, Endless Possibilities

One of the things I enjoy most about designing is exploring how a single idea can evolve into a whole collection. By reimagining the same stitch pattern in different shapes and proportions, I can create garments that feel connected while each having its own character and purpose.

That’s what the Moonchild Collection is all about—a coordinated wardrobe of crochet pieces that can be mixed, matched and worn in different ways. Whether you choose the bolero, the wrap, or several designs from the collection, each pattern offers a new way to enjoy the same light, summery aesthetic.
