The Name Leyla
I decided to name this headwear Leyla for several reasons.
Firstly, it used to be my nickname when I was a child.
Secondly, the name Leyla (also Layla, Lailah, Leylah, Laila, Leila) comes from the ancient Semitic word layl, meaning “night”, so this is a name often given to babies born at night. In Persian culture, the name Layla is associated with beauty and can mean “dark-haired beauty” or “dark beauty.” Although I’m not dark-skinned, I do have very dark hair, eyes and eyebrows, so the meaning of the word somehow seemed really suitable.
Thirdly, in some interpretations of the Talmud, the Jewish holy book, Lailah is the name of an angel. What better choice can there be than picking such an epithet for any product of beauty and charm?
And finally, being a popular name for girls in both western and eastern cultures, Leyla was inspiration to many authors, poets, songwriters, to whom it often sympolized grace, elegance and eternal love of a woman carrying this powerful appellation.
General information about the pattern
I crocheted my rolled visor cap Leyla top down in one piece, by holding 1 strand of super bulky (woll/acrylic blend) yarn. You can also use 2 strands of sport (cotton) yarn together to obtain the right yarn weight. Half double crochet stitches are the only stitch for the whole cap. After you complete the top and crown, both of which are crocheted in the rounds, you crochet the visor with turns. Several rows of the visor use a hdc stitch in 3rd loop. See this video tutorial on how to do hdc in 3rd loop.
instructions
